Standardized FTA sample collection kits incorporate FTA technology for DNA reference sample collection into one convenient package for collection of buccal samples using the EasiCollect device.

QIAcard Child ID Kit

The QIAcard Child ID Kit gives parents the option of having the hospital collect and provide a sample of the newborn’s blood at the time of birth. QIAcard FTA paper is a chemically impregnated cellulose matrix that can store DNA samples for years at room temperature. The DNA cells (nucleic acid) are stored in the FTA papers’ fibers and is protected from UV light, free from radial damage, and microbial and fungal degradation during storage. In the event of a future emergency involving the child, such as an accident, abduction, or natural or manmade disaster, the blood collected can be used to perform a DNA analysis for use in identifying the child. This sample provides an additional piece of information parents can give to authorities in an emergency. To collect the sample, a drop of blood is spotted onto a specially designed blood spot sample collection card, placed in a protective envelope with a drying agent, sealed, and given directly to the parents for storage and safekeeping.

• FTA technology

FTA chemistry lyses cells on contact, denatures proteins, and protects DNA from degradation. DNA remains tightly bound to the FTA Card while proteins and inhibitors are washed away.

• Flexible processing

Once dried, the FTA Card can be removed from the EasiCollect Plus device and punched by using, for example:

QIAGEN’s UniCore Punches for manual processing;

BSD600 Ascent Punch Instrument for semi automated processing or Hamilton Robotics EasyPunch automation for automated processing.

Allows conventional and direct STR amplification using e.g. QIAGEN’s Investigator 24plex GO! or Investigator IDplex GO! kits.

EasiCollect Buccal Collection Kit

EasiCollect Buccal Collection Kits include established FTA technology items for sample collection in the field to increase efficiency and productivity in the forensic laboratory. A downloadable demographics form can be edited to include information about the collection agency. The kit is manufactured to ISO9001:2008 standards to ensure quality. The EasiCollect Buccal Collection Kit contains an EasiCollect device, peelable bar codes, gloves, a Multi-Barrier Pouch, a mailing envelope, tamper-proof tape for the mailing envelope, desiccant and a clear outer bag labeled with code number and expiration date.
